Beyond2015 - What will happen to the MDGs?

Alliance2015 is becoming more involved in the Beyond2015 movement and is participating in the debate focusing on the future of the Millennium Development Goals.

Some successes towards reaching the MDGs are taking shape, especially in the education and health sectors, but the world should have a follow-up agenda once 2015 arrives. Since the year 2000 when the Millennium Declaration was agreed, new actors and global challenges have appeared on the world’s stage. These require new thinking and adjusted approaches that any new framework will need to reflect.

Via the global civil society campaign Beyond2015 (www.beyond2015.org), Alliance2015 now contributes to feeding into this debate in a structured way. Represented by Concern and Welthungerhilfe, Alliance2015 has just given input to the “draft response to the EU consultation on a Post2015-Framework.”

Alliance2015 had joined Beyond2015 in January 2012, having previously contributed to the formulation of their 10 Must Haves for a future framework post 2015.  In light of Alliance2015’s recently approved EU-application („Structured dialogue between Alliance2015 members, beneficiaries and partners, and relevant EU institutions on MDG 1, 2 and a new Post 2015 framework“) and because the MDGs are at the heart of Alliance2015’s ‚raison d’être’, the Alliance2015 Advocacy Working Group became a member of the official drafting group.

The second week of August brings the first opportunity for the wider membership of Beyond2015 to shape its collective response to the EC consultation.
