Earthquake in Haiti - Alliance2015 Members involved in Emergency Aid
Four of the seven Alliance2015 members work in Haiti and have begun to coordinate their work after the disastrous earthquake of January 12th.
At this time, the Alliance members who already work in Haiti - Concern Worldwide, Welthungerhilfe, ACTED and Cesvi - are in contact with each other, assessing the situation and coordinating their work. One local Concern staff member has sadly been killed, and two others are still missing. Offices remain mostly intact, except for the ACTED office that has been badly damaged. Both Concern and Welthungerhilfe have sent their emergency response teams, and two ACTED staff members are on their way to Port-au-Prince.
Members not present in Haiti (IBIS, Hivos and People in Need) will support the others via fundraising activities in Europe.
Food, water, shelter and medicine are now the immediate priority for those who have survived the catastrophe, and the experienced Alliance partners in Haiti will provide as much of the needed supplies as they can.
If you would like to donate, you can do so at any of the seven Alliance members. Please select the respective website to find details.
In order to follow what the individual members are doing, please follow their news via the RSS feed visible on the left of this page.
Looking further ahead, Alliance2015 members will discuss a joint strategy for reconstruction in Haiti, involving all seven member organisations.
Concern has a lot of experience dealing with disasters in Haiti. In 2008, the organisation provided post-hurricane relief to 1,269 families and distributed seeds, tools and livestock to more than 8,000 people in affected communities. Working in Haiti since 1994, Concern's long-term work is in health, education, peace-building and community work. Concern has over 100 staff in Haiti and 16 local partners.
Welthungerhilfe has been working in Haiti since 1974, and since then has provided support for more than 124 projects there with a total value of 60 million Euros. Currently, it has six seconded employees and 105 Haitian employees working on the island in the Caribbean. The projects focus on food security, irrigation, resource management and drinking water.
