Alliance2015 Members Cooperating after Sumatra Earthquakes
Alliance members in Indonesia have been well-connected since the 2004 tsunami. They were able to immediately coordinate among each other after the recent strong earthquakes that struck the island of Sumatra on September 30th and October 1st.

Over 770 people have been confirmed dead and nearly 2,400 injured, according to the latest official sources. Thousands more are missing or trapped in rubble and many people have no proper shelter or access to basic items.
In the heavily affected coastal city of Padang (ca. 900,000 inhabitants), Hivos is currently setting up an emergency IT communication unit through their local partners. Two Hivos staff members are on their way to Padang. From Europe, Concern Worldwide, Welthungerhilfe and People in Need are sending members of their Emergency Task Forces to Padang to gather there on Monday night for a first Hivos-prepared assessment meeting.
ACTED will be participating in the ECHO Assessment Mission in the rural region outside of Padang.
Cesvi is not planning to send staff to Indonesia, but is considering the launch of a fundraising campaign in order to support the other Alliance members’ work.
